House Beautiful…with a home equity agreement
Living in a historic area in Washington State, in a home built in 1910, with a beautiful yard, sounds idyllic. And for Unlock customer Krista, it absolutely is…except for some of the costs that go with it.
Since purchasing her home from a fix-and-flip seller a few years ago, she has noticed a number of small things that were not completed just right. She also has a list of bigger fixes and updates she’d like to make, inside and out. A self-described visual thinker, she has even created a vision board to help her create and accomplish her goals. “I love my house, and love working to make it more of a home.”
But with the cost of living, and prices on the rise, the single mom was dealing with the reality of limited finances. “I carefully put away money with each paycheck for my house projects, but it made finances extremely tight,” she says.
When she found Unlock, she found a solution. She could see that the funds from a home equity agreement (HEA) would allow her to get her house projects rolling, much faster and with much less stress.
“The Unlock representative I worked with made things very clear,” Krista says. “He was personal, professional and helpful, and made himself available for any questions I had.” She especially valued the educational approach to the process, an approach she uses in her own work. “I was so grateful that the representative took the time to carefully explain how the HEA worked, how the process worked, step-by-step, and then what to expect and when to expect it. He made it easy.”
Krista has been able to start a few of her projects, both planned and unplanned. Her HEA ensured she had the money to deal with a broken pipe in her yard. She has replaced her kitchen sink, completed some plumbing work and measured for the new fence she’ll be installing. Long-term, her vision board includes ideas on tackling a bathroom, expanding the kitchen and more.
“This has been one of the best things I have done,” says Krista of her Unlock HEA. “It has reduced stress and made life easier.” She knows that she has the funds to make the improvements and changes she is visualizing. “I’m really looking forward to digging in.”
